Courtrooms, Cameras, Police, Kop busters &Yolanda Madden

Courtrooms, Cameras, Police, Kop busters &Yolanda Madden

Here in Illinois, at least in DuPage County, when one walks into the county courthouse one is not allowed to take so much as a camera phone in. Ive often wondered about this. Ive thought to myself, at times, "I wonder what theyre so afraid of." It seems to me that this is a public building, so arent the citizens of the county the actual owners? If they want to film on their own property, shouldnt they be able to do so with impunity? If they want to take pictures of their public servants, doesnt it make sense that they should be able to? Other counties in other states allow cameras and filming in their courtrooms, and if we are to have an open and honest judiciary system it seems to me that the best way to keep them on the up and up is to be able to film and record their activities. And yet, for some reason, the state of Illinois feels too paranoid to allow cameras into this supposedly public venue.

I believe that some would reason that cameras arent allowed in the courtrooms because those who would dispense justice contend that allowing citizens to have cameras in the courtroom would disrupt proceedings. Well, I can say that as a father who has raised five children that Ive been to many a school recital where over zealous parents have brought numerous video and flash cameras and the proceedings were hardly disrupted. It seems to me that if a group of nervous school children can pull off a performance in front of the lights and bustle of parental recording, a group of serious men who have been arguing cases in front of each other for years should be able to perform their jobs in front of quiet adults with video cameras. Besides, as Ive said earlier, this is a public forum and certainly the public should be aware of what its servants are doing and what they can expect should they ever be accused of participating in some sort of crime and be forced to partake in a trial.

So, I wonder why no cameras are allowed in Illinois courtrooms. I wonder what theyre afraid of. Perhaps its not justice they dispense, but injustice. Perhaps if we citizens were to start videotaping these proceedings from beginning to end it would be easier for us to discover that our justice system is actually corrupted to the core, from top to bottom. I seem to remember that when I was growing up the justice system of the United States of America was the pride of many of the adults I knew and trusted. It was said to be one of the best in the world because everyone was supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty" and our officials were incorruptible. At least, thats what I was taught. It doesnt seem to be that way anymore. Perhaps if we could bring our cameras into the courtroom and see the evidence that judges dont allow and hear some of the pretrial motions that seem to predetermine the outcome of a trial, perhaps then the general public would have a better understanding of just how rotten our justice system has become.

But courtrooms arent the only place video cameras in the hands of common citizens have become unwelcome. It seems police on the street have become paranoid of humans bearing cameras as well as judges in courtrooms. Their paranoia is evident in many Youtube videos where we see these miscreants demanding cameras be put down. These are the same officers of the law who would make the claim that one has nothing to fear from them if one has done nothing wrong. They would state that one need not worry about ones rights being violated so long as one has broken no laws. But in these Youtube videos one can see that it is no wonder the police are afraid of cameras. It becomes blatantly obvious as we watch the misguided officers violating the civil rights of human beings and that is the greater law being violated by them, not by the citizenry.

And yet the deception created by such actions and paranoia does not end there. Its fingers creep out into society and affect us all. Many do not even realize the extent to which the corruption has spread. The mainstream media refuses to inform the general public which many of the older folks are still addicted to. Many in this older generation refuse to believe that their public servants are no longer servants of the public, but are instead trained to control and manipulate. The servants have become the masters and we are to obey them or be crushed. They will stop at nothing to perpetuate the perception that they are always in the right and will stoop to the lowest low to promote the illusion that they can do no wrong.

It is the common man using the tools that modern technology has made affordable that has exposed this, not the mainstream media which seems to have forgotten or neglected its usefulness as a check and balance on the power of government. The youth of this country are beginning to understand that it is up to the citizenry to protect their own rights, that no one else will do it for them and that those entrusted with such a duty will only run roughshod over them if given half a chance. That is why we are seeing the old media dying, a new media springing to life to replace it and those in power becoming afraid. They run when the light of truth is shone upon them and the people are better off because of this.

Take as an example the case of Yolanda Madden from Odessa, Texas. She was sentenced to eight years in prison for possession of methamphetamines. "Whats the big deal about that?" the most indoctrinated among us might ask, "She broke the law and she needs to be punished!" they might cry. Im not going to use this space to explain the argument about the right of someone to decide for himself what to do with his own body and how despicable this thing called by some "the war on drugs" is. The necessity for us to grant freedom to others so that we can have it for ourselves is self evident. The problem with Yolandas case is that it was all a lie. The drugs they found on her were planted by a police informant. How do I know this? Its a matter of public record. The informant testified as such in court. Both the informant and Yolanda passed many tests to prove her innocence. Even that didnt matter to the corrupt system. She was still found guilty and sentenced. She has already lost years of her life sitting in prison when she could have been contributing to society in a positive way.

The police lied. They lied about many things. There is video tape of the bust that they said didnt exist. They lied when they said they didnt have evidence planted. They lied when they claimed she broke down and cried at the traffic stop and allowed them to search her vehicle. They continue to lie. The injustice that their lies bring is immeasurable. The harm they continue to do not only to the people that were wronged, but to the reputation of the American justice system is massive. To those who say "the law is the law," I say "wrong is wrong." What the police did was wrong. The law is secondary. When we spot injustice, we should all demand that it stop and that those wronged are made right again. Remember, if something like this can happen to someone like Yolanda, it can happen to your son or daughter or even to you. Where is Yolanda, or anyone else for that matter, supposed to get their justice when the justice system is so compromised?

Enter Kopbusters. This group of brave individuals has decided to take on the establishment using the same methods that corrupted law enforcement has been using for years. Normally I would be against entrapment, because normally entrapment is used when a thought crime and not a real crime has been committed, but in this case a real crime was committed and I feel a taste of ones own medicine is justified. So Kopbusters set up a couple of Christmas trees inside a house and through lack of jurisprudence and proper investigative work, the police came to believe that a large grow operation was in fact taking place inside that house. A judge improperly issued a fourth amendment warrant and the police improperly served said warrant. Cameras inside the house caught the video of the illegal activity and streamed it live so that the video could not be confiscated and later "lost." The police and the judge in this case, if justice is to be served for the people of Texas, should be in some real trouble and should face criminal prosecution, but we shall see just how deep the corruption of the system goes.

All this was done to shine a light upon the Yolanda Madden case. Who knows how many cases like hers are out there? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands? Its hard to say. Now, the Odessa authorities are scrambling to do some damage control. They are trying to find out if any laws were broken in regards to the sting operation. They are seeking the identity of an anonymous tipster. They are not saying "thank you for exposing such behavior" to the men and women of Kopbusters. They are not promising to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. They arent so much as talking about cleaning up the corruption or making things right for Yolanda and her family. They are looking for an excuse to put someone in jail and hide behind some inane law so that they can continue their corrupt ways. They arent supposed to issue warrants based on the word of anonymous tipsters, so seeking the identity of one seems irrelevant and beside the point. These people need to admit their mistakes and face the music. They need to free those theyve wrongfully imprisoned and stop imprisoning those who havent harmed anyone. They need to stop acting like a criminal gang and once again become the peace officers that at one time were the envy of the world.

The police and the justice system continue to investigate this case not because they want to right the wrongs theyve committed, but because they want to try to spin it into a political win by shifting the focus from Yolanda to some anonymous tipster who doesnt matter. It wont work. The people are mad, and well they should be. They are mad about the abuse that has taken place. They are mad that their rights are no longer honored. They are mad that their money is stolen by this corrupt system. They are letting their anger show. You were caught red handed, gentlemen, admit your mistakes and take your punishment like the men you are supposed to be and quit whining and crying "no fair" like sniveling cowards.

If you are interested in learning more about Yolanda Maddens case and Kopbusters, visit their website at here.
The people of Kopbusters are, in my humble opinion, true American patriots working to protect the rights of the individual and the principles upon which our country was founded. They should be applauded and supported by anyone interested in maintaining the principles of freedom and liberty.

Commercial Hvac Tips For The Summer

Commercial Hvac Tips For The Summer

Summer is upon us, and with it comes temperatures soaring into the triple digits. At work, it can be a commitment to keep yourself and all of your employees cool throughout the day. More often than not therell be someone at the thermostat lowering the temperature and wondering if the cooling system is broken.

We get it! No one wants to be sweating it out at work all summer long. Thats why were here with some awesome HVAC summer tips thatll have you staying comfortable day in and day out while the cooler seasons approaches.

TUNE YOUR HVAC SYSTEM

The most inopportune time for your Commercial HVAC system to shut down on you is the summertime. A shutdown would result in lost work hours and revenue while repairs happen. Even a brand new HVAC system, like a new laptop, will degrade in performance over time if not taken care of correctly. This makes it all the more important to have periodic HVAC maintenance to identify and fix any problems within your HVAC system before they become disasters. Work with your Commercial HVAC service, and find a schedule that works for you to make sure your cooling system does not break down during the peak temperature hours.

While you may not be a certified HVAC technician, you can play a part too! Your air duct filters around your business need replacement at least once every quarter. Air filters trap dust and debris circulating to ensure you have clean, breathable air inside. If left uncared for, air filters can block air circulation and result in musty and unclean air, as well as overwork your Commercial HVAC system and raise your energy bill. New filters are cheap and affordable, and only take minutes to take down and install. Do what you can to make sure business is breathing comfortable air.

CHANGE YOUR LIGHTING HABITS

While the weather itself can make it unbearable to work without air conditioning, theres things you can do to limit the indoor heat. Light oftentimes pairs up with heat. Heres a few HVAC tips to help with your lighting scenario.

For starters, if you still rely on incandescent lights to illuminate the workplace, its time to swap them out. While incandescent lights are powerful, they produce a lot of heat. You would know they do if you have ever touched one with your bare hands after it was just on for some time. Take measures to change out these warming light bulbs for ones that dont generate heat, like LED or fluorescent light bulbs.

Another option is to use natural light as much as possible. The sun offers free lighting; if you have a lot of windows in your business you might want to opt for free daylight lighting for open workspaces and offices to save money on your daily lighting usage.

Lastly, install occupancy sensors throughout your workplace. These sensors detect movement, so when no one is present itll shut off the lights automatically. Plus its rather enjoyable to be the first one in the office and have the lights flash on as you walk from the front desk to your own.

Summer Energy Saving Tips to Save Money on Commercial HVAC

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF BLINDS AND FILM

Besides reducing costs by replacing heat emitting lights, another way to stay cool is to limit the amount of sun that shines through your business. Blinds dont only work at home, they work in offices too! Whether youre a fancy guru and like unique wood blinds, or one thats content with generic white pull-down blinds, both are great for blocking the sun out of your workplace. Setting up blinds on the West and East sides of your business is a good start, as those directions are where the sun wakes up and goes to sleep daily.

Window film is yet another way to keep your building cool and lower your energy cost. Its polarization reflects incoming heat waves, and you can easily tell the difference in temperature when putting your hand against two adjacent windows, one with film and one without. Window film also gives your business a little privacy, making it harder to see outside in than vice versa.

Utilizing both blinds and film can save you lots of energy cooling down the workplace. On average, business using both of these options can keep their thermostats 3 to 5 degrees higher than businesses who run their HVAC system all day, every day.

Cichlid Diseases and How to Treat Them

Cichlid Diseases and How to Treat Them

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgnBgfjtyNb6lUavtDSo19n9A46mFiFA8HjCxN_1j79tk9HHvvfMIyYZzJ4UXSpd3r_8dTn2bg3crhVzItH5OO05XQB4dYxOITKTMs__ytqY8qb3nJBlwh4IbW3IJS7pXBJA-Pnzn0iFk/w1200-h630-p-k-nu/20100802184840.jpg

Taking care of cichlids is a pretty simple task provided you adhere to some simple guidelines. Cichlids like you and I also suffer from sickness and diseases, and as their owner it is your responsibility to keep them at optimal health, meaning its good to keep an eye out for any signs of disease or sickness. If you neglect your fish then they will surely peril.

Diseases in cichlid fish can be caused by parasites in the body, fungi on their exterior and also bad bacteria in the tank water.

Things that you want to look out for are cloudy or puffy eyes, sores on their bodies, loss of color, restricted movement, bloating of stomach or internal organs. Any of these symptoms are usually caused by some sort of bacterial infection.

If you observe any strange looking growth around the face area or sporadic behavior in the tank like darting about in a crazy manner you may be looking at some sort of fungal infection.

If you see any weak breathing, impaired movement, mucus growth on the skin, loss of appetite, spots, intense scratching. These are generally the sign of parasite infection which may include leeches, worms or lice.

Just about the most common cichlid disease is Hole in the head disease. Hexamita, usually results in rapid weight loss and a major loss of appetite, and you will also notice little indentations on and around the head area.

Yet another really frequent cichlid illness is actually Ich or Ichtyophthirius. With this particular ailment whitened crystal marks show up on the head first, and then propagate over the entire body. Inhaling and exhaling is fast, the fish scrapes a great deal, and also the eye balls and fins all become cloudy.

When the belly is enlarged, and you find reddish scales encircling this area, it is possible that the cichlid is actually struggling with Dropsy. This may be because of germs, parasites, or even cancer. The best way to deal with this is saltwater treatment.

If you neglect their water conditions then your fish may end up with Fish Pox, Fin Rot or even Ammonia poisoning.

Columnaris or Cotton Wool Disease is one you must be very wary of as it is very contagious. Symptoms will be a grey/white layer on the skin, fin damage, ulcers and sores, loss of color in the gills. You must treat this immediately with a good antibiotic type treatment, and u will have to treat the whole tank. This is the same for Fish Tuberculosis, which is also very contagious.

Another parasite type infection is Slime Disease which causes a white coating of the skin, sporadic movement, reddening around the gills and even folded fins. You must treat this straight away with a good parasitic medication and also by raising the water temperature a degree or two.

Cichlids can also suffer from constipation which will cause a swelling of the stomach, loss of appetite, and erratic swimming. They may have feces trailing behind them. The best way to fix this is to starve them for two days then start them on a different diet.

On the subject of diet if you over feed your fish they may end up with Swim Bladder disease which will cause difficulty in swimming, swimming upside down, floating. These symptoms also can mean Flip over disease.

One popular way of dealing with diseases is salt treatment, but this should ideally only be done in a quarantine tank as other fish may be negatively affected. Plus it will not guarantee a cure for all diseases.

Now because an aquarium is such a small closed environment, without proper monitoring and treatment can become a disease incubator. Regular cleaning of your tank and water will be your best weapon against disease in your aquarium.

It is best to spot these things as early as possible so as to implement a cure strategy before it is too late....Good Luck

Canadian Film Tax Incentives Still In The Game

Canadian Film Tax Incentives Still In The Game

As mentioned in The Importance of Film Tax Incentives Today, tax incentives are a key component to independent film budgets. This is a fact for all filmmakers. For those of us in the USA, we have the ability to rely on several state governments to secure portions of our films budgets. But we dont have a monopoly on the idea, and our friendly neighbors above us bring competitive incentives. With nearly 100 productions currently shooting [at the time I write this] throughout Toronto and Vancouver, more and more production companies are looking north for their locations and services.

Canada offers one of the best tax incentives in North America by not only providing a great tax percentage, but factoring in the currency exchange rate allows both large and small productions to shoot for a reasonable price. Canadas dollar usually steeps below $0.80 USD, allowing the hard earned American dollar to actually save you money in Canada. Most production companies utilize the weak Canadian dollar to increase the amount they can spend on their shoots. And depending on the province of choice (usually Ontario, B.C., or Quebec) and project requirements, you could qualify up to 40% tax incentives to cover your budget. Between Vancouver and Toronto, they have been known to be stand-ins for iconic cities like New York and Chicago. Although used for location services, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver also have professional sound stages, VFX studios, and other post-production houses you could take advantage of. The best part: Canada will give you an extra tax percentage for each and every one of those items!

In late 2015 to early 2016, British Columbia noticed that it was receiving an exponential amount of business from out-of-state productions that they couldnt handle, causing a fluctuation in the provinces annual budget. In B.C., the Finance Minister publicly stated that they are "not prepared to see payouts grow at the rate they have. We have a balanced budget, but we have other priority areas that we feel we need to address on behalf of British Columbians." With these statements, the Minister was contemplating placing a cap on B.C.s tax incentive. While this does not seem like a major problem on its face, this is concerning because much of the regions success in attracting large quantities of film productions has been predicated on the no-cap policy. Further, one province adopting such a startling policy shift could have been enough to encourage other provinces and states to follow suit; such a shift could easily cripple the northern filmmaker community.

Since the discussions were released back in February, an industry-government group of representatives from film and television reconstructed the tax credit to benefit both the film industry and the people of the province. Starting Oct 1, 2016, "the basic production services tax credit rate will be set at 28%, down from 33%, and the digital animation or visual effects (DAVE) tax credit rate will be set at 16%, down from 17.5%." (news.gov.bc.ca). In other words, despite a slight decrease in credit rates, the province will continue to attract the filmmaking industry by standing by their no-cap policy. And of course, the low Canadian dollar is still an attractive added benefit that state-side territories cannot offer. At least for the time being, the no-cap policy paired with a favorable exchange rate should keep Canada at the top of you location list.

Can A DICOM Viewer Change Your Medical Work Life

Can A DICOM Viewer Change Your Medical Work Life

Medical facilities both large and small began taking advantage of radiological images with film-based systems initially. Eventually, digital imagery became available, and like all new technology, at the start it came at a very high price. This meant that only the largest medical facilities and hospitals could afford to use digital imaging. Now that has all changed. With the tremendous price drops in all types of digital technology, now more than ever small and mid-sized medical facilities can enjoy the benefits that come from digital imaging just as the large facilities have. So in answer to the question of a DICOM viewer being able to change your medical work life, the answer is a resounding yes.

The first part of the digital imaging process has to do with acquiring the image. This occurs through CR or DR imaging systems. Once the image is digitized, you need to be able to see it, and this is where the DICOM viewer comes into play. A dicom image viewer is a software that allows you to look at Dicom-format images. The DICOM viewer could be placed on a personal computer, or it could live on a server on the Internet, in which case it would be referred to as a DICOM web viewer. A dicom image viewer can connect to a PACS system, which allows for the sending and receiving of digital medical images, or the images can be retrieved locally as well.

A popular DICOM viewer is the efilm dicom viewer. The efilm system runs on an ordinary operating system for Windows. This dicom image viewer lets you display PET and CT images together, and it allows you to choose and display the medical images you want through the use of the thumbnail viewer.

If remote access to digital medical images is a priority for your medical facility, then a DICOM web viewer is in order. This type of dicom image viewer enables the sending and receiving of digital images via the World Wide Web, saving a dramatic amount of time over traditional film processing and mailing. A web-based DICOM viewer allows for long-distance consultations to occur, leading to better patient care at a fraction of the previous cost. With a web-based DICOM viewer, you can also enhance digital images with built-in image manipulation tools.

A dicom image viewer also helps you to stay in compliance with HIPPA regulations. These systems offer 128-bit SSL encryption, enabling the safe and secure transmission of patient images and records.

You can find these and other medical digital imaging hardware and software from professional online medical imaging distributors.

Building with Fabric Material Choices

Building with Fabric Material Choices

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz_YF2P-igxKzqBLzXUnpuVTo3jDEAJkAscxw2hZvPLAU9MXXf6qYsc2GzPT6In8rQhXTAP-wXkvvMWAcibx58pSzqwSkgXjBEW_7qQbfQat2WA4VbbB8gc4Ib4jOQsH-8bl2eheqyhXz_/s640/japanese+fabrics.jpg

Today's Architect has a tough decision to make when it comes to choosing materials. There is steel and glass and concrete and wood. What about fabric! Architectural Fabric Structures are fast becoming a very common and visible part of the built environment. No longer used for garden parties and traveling circuses, these structures come in many new forms and uses.

Fabric structures are being designed for as few as one person as in a boutique resort hotel in the outback of Australia, to covering 50,000 plus at the Super Bowl in Houston, Texas. Fabric Structures are now also being designed to cover animals as well like at Seaworld, Orlando where these structures cover dolphins to prevent them from sun burn (they get sun burn too?). And let's not forget Man's newest best friend, the automobile. More and more, the automobile has taken center stage where valet parking attendants, airport parking owners and car dealers are discovering the advantages of covering automobiles.

Fabric Structures are beings used as roofs, sails, walls, lights, shades and even signs. With all these different uses and forms, there are a variety of materials to choose from depending on one's needs, budget and design.

The best way to determine which material to use is to see what has already been used for the building type you are considering.

If you are interested in structures such as tents or umbrellas where the main objective is to provide temporary, nomadic shelter, you are probably looking at vinyl laminated or coated polyester.

If you are researching awnings and canopies, the options are endless. You are most likely to hear words like acrylic canvas and backlit fabrics and materials which you can apply graphics to.

If shade is your primary concern, the buzz word is structural mesh, high density polyethylene (HDPE), perforations and percentage of light transmission.

For warehousing, industrial applications and temporary buildings, a common term may be clear spans or pre-engineered fabric building with materials that are mold and mildew resistant like polyolefin.

The interior and lighting industry have their own variety of fabrics where flame resistance, UL ratings and percentage of reflectance are the most important issues.

Air and Tension Fabric Structures rely heavily on the fabric's structural characteristics so tensile strength, sound absorption and solar transmission play a major role in their selection.

So, What material do you use?

Is your project near the water? Is it meant to last 20 years? Do you want to see it from afar or do you want it to be dark inside at noon? These are all important questions one should answer before you even start. Fabric Structures have very few components. In most cases, it is just steel, fabric, cables and hardware. The choice for each component will most certainly affect the others. Other issues include: span, size, availability, cost, codes, etc.

In most States, permanent, totally enclosed structures require a "non combustible" or Class A/B rating according to Building Codes. The most recognized and accepted material used for Architectural Applications is Teflon Coated Fiberglass or PTFE.

Recognized manufacturers include Saint Gobain, Verseidag, FiberTech and Taconic. Teflon comes to the site brown like a pair of khakis but bleaches to a milky white over time (usually 4-8 weeks). The biggest problem with Teflon is that it is stiff and brittle and must be handled very carefully to avoid breaking the fibers. The best part is its life span (25+ years) and its "self cleaning" attributes.

Other "non combustible" materials include Silicon Coated Fiberglass, Gore Brand Tenara Architectural Fabrics and Ethylene tetra ethylene or ETFE.

Silicon has been out on the market for quite some time. Unlike Teflon coated fiberglass which can be heat welded, Silicon must be glued with a special adhesive. The advantage of silicon over Teflon is its translucency, cost and availability of colors. Gore Brand Tenara is also in the "non combustible category". Its advantages include its high translucency, long life span and it is more pliable than silicon or Teflon so it can be used for retractable structures.

ETFE is not really a fabric but a film presently being promoted as an alternative to structural glass. It is "green" friendly and is the new hot material to Architects world wide today. It is being used in FIFA Stadiums in Germany, the Olympic Games in China, being specified for commerical buildings and retail and the choice for creating artificial rainforests for zoos and Science Centers.

The majority of fabric structures being considered today are for uses which do not require complete enclosure. That means, they are most likely "open air" or do not require a Class A rating. Class C is the most common rating and NFPA 701 is the most accepted certificate for most Fire Marshals. Vinyl coated polyester (PVC) is the most common material used on the market today.

What's not to like. The material comes in a variety of colors, strengths, weights, thickness, perforations, translucency and textures. The material is pliable and stretches quite nicely. You can find material with 10, 12 and even 15 year warranties. You can find material that is 50 to 100" wide so you can have few, fewer or the fewest amounts of seams.

Manufacturers include Ferrari, Mehler, Naizil, Seaman and Verseidag, to name a few. These are the names most seen on Specifications, which means that these companies are directly marketing and assisting the Architect in the early stages of the design.

PVC comes in a variety of top finishes: acrylic, PVDF and PVF film. There is much debate about top finishes but all manufacturers agree that they are needed to protect the base fabric from UV degradation, water and wind. Frankly, it's all about the coatings. PVF is a film applied to the main fabric while acrylic and PVDF are coatings. Both PVF and PVDF claim to be "self cleaning" or provide the base material with a much cleaner and maintenance free surface but both require additional work in the shop which may be unknown to the Architect. Both top of the line PVF and PVDF require that the top coat or film where two panels are to meet be grinded off in order for them to be RF welded. This is time consuming and requires great care in order to keep the seams clear of dirt, model and mildew. There are "weldable" PVDF but their warranties are not as long as the high tech top coats.PVC Structures love graphics and provide a great backdrop for projected images.

Today, more and more fabric structures are being designed for shade only. Structural mesh and perforated fabrics are being specified because of the need for shade, the need to allow the elements to go thru the material and the need for a space to "see thru and be seen". The material most often used is high density polyethylene (HDPE). Manufacturers include Multiknit, Coolaroo and Shadetex. This material is a higher grade mesh than what one would see at a home improvement warehouse or at an outdoor furniture store. HDPE is used for playgrounds, areas requiring hail protection, schools, day care centers as well as theme parks and spaces of public assembly. Mesh is hot so you can stay cool. Mesh comes in colors, fire rated and with different perforations. It has a life span of 8-10 years and in most cases lowers the size and loads on the structural system and foundations because it takes less wind.

If you want to keep it simple, then work with materials which do not rely on their structural characteristics for its stability. These materials are usually clad on a frame. The materials are usually vinyl laminated polyester, acrylic coated canvas, and materials with a light topcoat. Sunbrella is a common brand name. The material has less technical information available for applying them to fully engineered lightweight structures but when used as a cladding on a frame, they offer many opportunities to the Architect. One can apply graphics to the material, bring texture to the surface or make something truly unique.

If you want to look at materials for interior application, look no further than the industrial fabric industry and Theatrical Drapery. There are lightweight PTFE materials used for ceilings in dome stadiums, PVC fabrics are used for interior tensioned fabric sculptures while theatrical drapery materials from companies like Rosebrand and Dazian are used for a softer look. Spandex/Lycra is another common material used for transforming temporary and permanent spaces but require the material be fire treated prior to fabrication.

Lastly, it doesn't hurt to dream about the future of architectural fabrics. The wish list would include "Smart" fabrics, fabrics that change color according to weather, light or mood. Fabrics made with optic and photovoltaic fibers, materials with longer life spans, higher tensile strength, improved self cleaning, higher translucency and environmentally friendly.

The future of Architectural Fabric Structures depends on the continuing effort of manufacturers to improve its existing products and to introduce new materials.

BMW Blinds Versus Window Tinting

BMW Blinds Versus Window Tinting

The summer is almost here again and its now the time that BMW owners are starting to think about keeping their little ones cool in the back of their BMW. Whilst air conditioning does this quite well, there is still the issue of how to prevent the harmful UV rays and heat caused by bright sunlight from harming our small passengers.

In the past, it was common to have BMW rear windows tinted by a specialist tinting company. Aftermarket tinting of windows has always been a potential problem if the job wasn't performed properly. Poor window tinting can look unsightly if air bubbles are trapped between the film and the glass or it starts to peel because due to incorrect application. The film is also fairly easy to damage and a sharp or heavy object can make an unsightly tear or scratch that allows the full light of the untinted window to pass through, making the damage very obvious.

Other damage can be caused to the film by the rubber seals on the windows rubbing against it. Sometimes, when the window is lowered, it can be seen where the film ends just before the top edge of the open window. Furthermore, if the film installer has to remove your glass or at the very least, remove your internal door panel, mechanical and electrical problems can be caused by incorrect reassembly of these components.

It is for these reasons that BMW blinds are becoming increasingly popular. There are two types to choose from, which are original BMW blinds and aftermarket BMW blinds. The original BMW blinds are often of the roller blind type of design. In some cases, they may be retractable, either manually or electrically. There are also fixed original blinds available for certain models of BMWs too.

Whilst the quality of original BMW blinds is excellent, their price reflects this. I recently was asked to supply an original quarter light blind to a customer with a BMW E38 7 series and it cost him over 130 for the one blind. It also seemed to me that it may be prone to damage through rough handling when being pulled out or retracted.

A much better value type of BMW blind is the aftermarket fixed type. These blinds are designed to cover the full window to which they are fitted. They are fixed using a variety of clips or spring loading into the frame of the window. Unlike roller blinds that sometimes leave the area around the edge exposed, these blinds fill the full aperture of the window.

Because of the way that they are fitted, the blinds can be removed in seconds and stored away, should they not be required at night or during periods of low sunlight. Such easy removal also allows for the inside of the windows to be easily cleaned. When you sell your BMW, you can remove the blinds and either fit them to your next BMW, assuming it is the same type, or sell them.

The rear blind is in two halves. This allows easier and cheaper shipping when ordered online and also makes each half stronger and easier to handle and store rather than a large single piece rear window blind.

From the outside, the aftermarket BMW blinds look simply stunning. They improve the look of your BMW tremendously. In addition, they make the rear seat area more comfortable for your child or dog and also make it quite difficult to see inside the car. This allows items to be left on the rear seat without them being so easily visible, therefore improving security.

Should you wish to open the window to which the blind is fitted, then that is not a problem. As the blind is secured to the window frame and not the glass, the window can be opened as normal and can act as a bug screen to stop insects entering the inside of your BMW.

At night, the blinds prevent glare from the headlights of vehicles travelling behind without obscuring visibility. Whether it be night or day, once you have got used to the blinds, you don't even notice that they are there.

In the UK, insurance companies sometimes increase the annual insurance premium when the windows of your BMW have been tinted but the installation of blinds very rarely attracts insurance costs.

So, as the summer gets nearer, whether you have a BMW or not, think about installing blinds rather than the more conventional and potentially problematic window tinting.

Big Touch Screen Displays Are Scalable And The Latest In Digital Advertisements

Big Touch Screen Displays Are Scalable And The Latest In Digital Advertisements

You will need a reference point to answer these questions about big touch screens, "How big can a touch screen be?" and "What is the largest size available?"

The answer is relative to the space that it is going to be placed in. There is no one single answer and it is important to communicate that from the beginning. For a small smoothie shop in a local strip mall, it may be a 30" display system. For a corporate lobby with a little more square footage, it might be a 60"-80" diagonal screen.

When working on a trade-show booth or display, museum exhibit, industrial facility, or public arena, a Big Touch Screen size will probably be in the 100"- 120" diagonal screen surface. A kiosk in the mall may require a 20" diagonal size while a retail store in the mall would need a large touch screen, with a 60" diagonal screen.

To determine what "Big" will mean to you and your space, it will be relative to the size of your facility. With standard Touch Screen Sizes ranging from 30" to 122" diagonal for thru-glass touch screen films and 30" - 220" for multi-touch Infrared IR Bezels, there is a standard size to accommodate almost any customer request.

Although most customer requests can be appropriately fulfilled with a standard product, quality interactive touch screen manufacturers offer custom sizes and aspect ratios to fit most any need. Recently SSI designed and integrated the world's largest "TRUE" multi-touch large format touch screen at a viewable size of 7' x 17' in an industrial facility.

This touch screen surface is a custom rear projection multi-touch display incorporating an Infrared IR Bezel and rear projection film on glass. Although not everyone may need a "BIG" touch screen of that size. It is nice to know that if you do, it has been done before.

A common misunderstanding and misconception about touch screens is the difference between single, dual and true multi-touch. As you approach the idea or implementation of a big or large format touch screen you will want to address this question to avoid significant ghost points and insufficient touch points for the size of the screen.

If you are planning on more than one person interacting with the screen at one time, this is a very important point to address from the beginning. A common big touch screen for retail storefront windows is 40"-65". This type of touch screen system is called thru-glass touch screen film on glass and will most likely involve the integration of rear projection film.

This simple yet powerful solution is being utilized by local and international brands and chain stores to create an interactive user experience. This technology is non-threatening to retail traffic and can be installed and fully operational in just a couple of hours.

A manufacturing facility had a recent installation of a 100" wide screen thru-glass touch screen film and rear projection film. This big touch screen system is being used for client presentations, project status updates, and more; before this system was in place the client would have to walk out onto the plant floor to physically see the progress of their product.

Although there is a place for that type of presentation it does not lend itself to impressing multimillion dollar clients like a large format big touch screen display with actual media in high definition.

Traditional or custom, a big touch screen is not only conceivable but also realistic and readily available.

When using a film type touch screen it is applied to a surface and the display or projection surface is placed behind it. When using a bezel you will place it directly over the top of the display surface instead of behind it; both varieties have their own strengths and weaknesses and it is important that you determine your application and requirements prior to purchasing your equipment.

Are There Positive Effects Of Television On Children

Are There Positive Effects Of Television On Children

Image source: http://image.slidesharecdn.com/positiveimpactoftvonchildren-140531035939-phpapp01/95/positive-impact-of-tv-on-children-3-638.jpg?cb=1401509390

Many parents will disagree, but there are certain positive elements of television for children. Many of us will have grown up watching shows like sesame street which show positive effects on children's development. Shows like this help to improve literacy, cultural awareness, imagination and how to deal with feelings. The following are a few ways for television to be a positive influence in a child's life.

The most important thing that a parent needs to do when allowing their kids to watch TV is to choose wisely and carefully monitor their viewing. Television is like food, in that not everything is good for you, but the right foods in the right doses have a positive influence on your life. Watching TV is exactly the same and the right shows can help children to develop in the right way.

Content is certainly very important. Many children shows are things like cartoons and many of these will have no educational element to them but will merely be entertainment. For very young children you need to select content rich programmes that teach kids about the alphabet and numbers and shapes. These shows tend to teach kids in a fun way with music and colours that help to activate the child's mind.

Another top tip is to make the most out of the time when watching television. You could talk to your children about what they are watching and engage them afterward in activities that follow on from the show and re-enforce what they have just been learning about.

You can sing songs and read books with your children. Also the internet is a wonderful source that will allow you to add additional content and enrich the experience the child is having watching the TV. Therefore, making the most of the time your child spends in front of the screen is important. Make sure you don't just sit them down and go about your daily business.

Finally, you should certainly limit the time they spend watching. There are many other activities that help a child's brain develop and allow children to indulge in some creative play. Things like books, building blocks and puzzles are excellent.

The important thing therefore is to maintain a sense of quality ahead of quantity. Develop a good spread of different shows that you children can watch and make sure that they indulge in other additional activities to stimulate their learning.

Aperture And Shutter Speed A Matter Of Priorities.

Aperture And Shutter Speed A Matter Of Priorities.

Digital cameras offer a few options when it comes to controlling aperture and shutter speed. Do you know which is the best one to choose for your photos?

Earlier SLR cameras (film) were fully manual. A photographer needed to understand aperture and shutter speed settings and know how to use them. Then came automatic modes, which let the camera do the thinking for you. This was (and still is) a fairly reliable way of getting a well-exposed picture, but it took creativity out of the hands of the photographer. As time went by, few people learned the manual skills. As cameras got better, the majority of photos got worse.

Today we have the best of both worlds. All DSLR cameras and most compact digital cameras have manual and automatic modes, but they also offer semi-automatic modes. That means you can be a little creative, and still allow the camera to control the exposure for you.

If you have Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority on your camera, but never quite understood what they were for, this article is for you.

First up, what are Aperture and Shutter Speed? These are the two mechanisms for controlling the level of exposure in your photos; whether your photo will be overexposed, underexposed, or just right. To explain them properly would take a much more in-depth article, so here is just a quick run-down.

Aperture is the size of the hole that lets the light in on your photo. Think of it like the iris in your eye - as the light gets lower, you open the aperture to let more light in. Aperture also controls depth of field, which affects how much of your picture is in focus. When you have a small aperture, you have a large depth of field, so your subject and the surroundings may be in focus. When your aperture is wide, the depth of field is much smaller, so there is much less area around the subject that will be in focus.

Shutter speed is the duration of the exposure. The shutter must be open to allow the light in; therefore the longer it is open, the brighter the exposure will be. Shutter speed also affects how sharp your picture will be. If you want to freeze a moving subject, you need to use a fast shutter speed.

The trick is to combine your aperture and shutter speed settings for the best result. If you get the balance right, your photo will be perfectly exposed, and you will have creative control over the look of the image.

Of course, this is easier said than done. To help you manage the challenge, you now have the option of Aperture and Shutter Priority. These semi-automatic modes allow you to take control of one setting, and the camera sets the other automatically. This lets you have some creative input, with the safety net of knowing the camera will take care of the level exposure. You decide how you want your photo to look, and the camera will make sure it is correctly exposed.

So which do you choose: Shutter Priority or Aperture Priority? Well, it's all a matter of...priorities.

Remember that aperture controls depth of field. So if the range of focus is the critical element in your photo, choose aperture priority. You can set a small aperture to maximise the depth of field, or a large aperture to concentrate the focus on the subject. Either way, the camera will adjust the shutter speed to give you the best exposure.

Shutter speed controls movement in a photo. If controlling a moving subject is the critical aspect of your picture, choose shutter priority. This will allow you to set a fast shutter speed to freeze the moving subject, or a slow shutter speed to capture blurred motion. Whichever shutter speed you choose, the camera will take care of the aperture so your photo is correctly exposed.

So your choice of Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority depends on the type of subject you are shooting, and how you want it to look in the final photograph. It really is an ideal marriage of art and technology, allowing you to concentrate on your creative choice rather than on technical issues.

There is so much to this subject, a short article like this can only scratch the surface. However if you have been reading your camera manual and scratching your head (like many people do) this quick introduction in layman's terms should help you to make some sense of Aperture and Shutter Priority.

Andean Instruments Charango

Andean Instruments Charango

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHJ2HGb9Z5mCJCjuw7sOoU5ZOJ2WwSPyFVdiBhZ2CpTesA_DJ3Z09PmIkL2KS1GSSq6AtlRLDvNzhNSQ2BJogMPmu6Ab0Sq5e7FCh0x58LiCehtAToNUArizYOS90Bup27KAAdUflxtos/s1600/charango.jpg

The charango was invented in the colonial Viceroyalty of Peru but in what is now Bolivia. Potosi is often given as the actual place of origin. It has been described as either a variation on the Spanish vihuela or the guitarra.

This stringed instrument is a member of the lute family. The typical length of the instrument is around 66 cm with string lengths of around 37 cm. It generally has 10 strings that are tuned in pairs. Strings can be made of nylon, metal or gut. In the old days, strings would normally be made from gut and animal tendons in villages as metal was not available. Now, metal tends to be used in the outlying areas, both for a preference of the sound as well as the lack of money for purchasing nylon strings.

While the vihuela was generally made of wood, it has been said that the indigenous people did not have the ability to carve it appropriately to create the necessary shape. For this reason, the original charangos were made using an armadillo show for the bowled back and wood for the rest of the instrument. Modern charangos are made completely from wood. There are some electric charangos now being made as well.

Other stories say that the Spanish forbade the Andeans from playing their music and that the creation of the charango was a way of having an instrument that could be hidden under a poncho to keep their music alive. Another story says that the indigenous peoples were forbidden to play the Spanish guitarra and they created the charango to achieve a similar sound. A 2005 documentary film called El Charango documents the instrument as originating with the miners in Potosi, Bolivia and how it symbolizes the oppression and struggle of the people.

Certainly, the charango has had and continues to have an important place in the Andean culture. It's frequently used as entertainment during long travels. It's used for courting and has an important place in the music at weddings, burials and the many local festivals. The melodies that are played vary according to the specific use for which they are intended.

There is an association in the countryside with mermaids or water spirits. It's believed that a new charango should be left overnight by the riverside so that the mermaid or sirena will tune it and play it. Having done so, the instrument will sound better and have a stronger ability to assist in courting.

While the charango was and still is used for playing traditional folkloric music in the countryside, it is used in other ways in the urban areas and may be used as a concert instrument as well. Compositions by various classical composers have been arranged for play by guitars and charangos, making an interesting return to its past considering that it developed from a European instrument. It frequently makes an appearance in Andean rock bands as well and also has found an occasional home with groups outside of South America such as The Gypsy Kings.

Ancient Poetry

Ancient Poetry

Ancient poems and ancient poetry have always struck me powerfully. The way the ancients viewed the world and expressed their fascination through poetry, is so different from how we view the world today. In our modern age, science has sought to explain every detail of our world, exploring its farthest corner and smallest nook. There is little mystery left in the world, no undiscovered, unruly places for the dreamer to imagine. But for the ancients, the world was still a vast and undiscovered place. I love to read ancient poetry because you can't help but be caught up with the same sense of wonder and mystery that the ancients saw in the world when you read their poems. Not only that but ancient poems have that special value of being, well...ancient :) I've included some excerpts from a few cultures: the Tao Te Ching (Chinese), Rumi (Persian), and Solomon (The Bible/Hebrew). Some are excerpts of advice, some are poems of love, and the rest are simply interesting truths about the world. I hope you find a timeless wisdom and knowledge in these old quotes and ancient poetry.

This first excerpt is a simple piece of advice:

"When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you." Tao Te Ching

This next excerpt is a nice pairing of bits of wisdom. It's really cool:

"Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt. Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench. Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner. Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity." Tao Te Ching

This is my favorite ancient poem. It's an ancient love poem from Persia:

"The intellectual is always showing off, the lover is always getting lost. The intellectual runs away. afraid of drowning; the whole business of love is to drown in the sea. Intellectuals plan their repose; lovers are ashamed to rest. The lover is always alone. even surrounded by people; like water and oil, he remains apart. The man who goes to the trouble of giving advice to a lover gets nothing. He's mocked by passion. Love is like musk. It attracts attention. Love is a tree, and the lovers are its shade." Rumi - The Intellectual is Always Showing Off

This is a list of ancient questions from China. Very poignant:

"Can you coax your mind from its wandering and keep to the original oneness?... Can you love people and lead them without imposing your will?" Tao Te Ching

Another love poem from ancient Persia. Very excellent:

"I am a sculptor, a molder of form. In every moment I shape an idol. But then, in front of you, I melt them down I can rouse a hundred forms and fill them with spirit, but when I look into your face, I want to throw them in the fire. My souls spills into yours and is blended. Because my soul has absorbed your fragrance, I cherish it. Every drop of blood I spill informs the earth, I merge with my Beloved when I participate in love. In this house of mud and water, my heart has fallen to ruins. Enter this house, my Love, or let me leave." Rumi - I am a sculptor a molder of form

A description of love from the Bible, the Old Testament, in the book Song of Solomon:

"For love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned." Song Of Solomon Chapter 8

A description of the human condition from the Tao Te Ching:

"He who stands on tiptoe doesn't stand firm. He who rushes ahead doesn't go far. He who tries to shine dims his own light. He who defines himself can't know who he really is. He who has power over others can't empower himself. He who clings to his work will create nothing that endures." Tao Te Ching

One of the most beautiful ancient poems from the Bible, describing the state of all life:

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace." Ecclesiastes Chapter 3

An interview with Rajiv Jain Cinematographer

An interview with Rajiv Jain Cinematographer

An interview with Rajiv Jain, Indian Cinematographer and owner of Rajiv Jain Films, Cinematography and Grips - Dubai - Mumbai - Nairobi.
Q: What is your job title? Where are you employed?
A: Director's cameraman, director of photography. I have my own company, Rajiv Jain Films, Cinematography and Grips, and I've been doing it for about twenty-five years.
Q: How long have you been a cinematographer?
A: I've been doing it for several years, but I started my own company at about 2005.
Q: What type of training did you have to become a cinematographer?
A: I went to the Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts. I had a two-year diploma degree in theatre arts. That put me into a position to see how the industry has changed a lot. Coming out of college, kids should just start their own company. First, they should decide what they want to do in the industry and then go for it. The sky's the limit depending on the career path you choose.
Q: What do you like best about your job?

A: Working for myself. Having the freedom to make your own decisions, to make your own path about what you want to do. But you can go for a month without working if you're on your own, so definitely put yourself on a business path as well as a creative path. Take businesses classes, not just liberal arts. The film industry is a business, just like the music industry. You have to be a self-starter.
Q: Describe your typical day on the job.
A: Which job? Normally when I'm not working, I'm in my office doing paperwork. From your office, you might have to go somewhere on location and that can be anywhere from two days to thirty days. A lot of our stuff is remote locations. Every job is unique. As soon as you think it's typical, it changes.
Q: What career were you in before becoming a cinematographer? Do you feel that it helped prepare you for becoming a massage therapist?
A: I was doing theatre, photo journalism, working at a local channel and making a decent earning. I found myself incorporating paramount to my words, and when I started taking pictures and filming, I realized this was what I'm most passionate about. But when you have a creative bone in your body, like writing, it's easier to expand into other aspects of a different creative trade.

Q: What traits do you feel are necessary to be successful as a cinematographer?
A: Everybody takes different paths to be successful. But you have to keep up-to-date. Editing and graphics has changed so much. The whole dynamics has completely changed. You have to be totally flexible and stay with the current trend.
Q: Would you say it's imperative to have a college education for a career such as this one?
A: I don't think it's imperative, but what I got out of college is I networked a lot. I don't think it's a hundred percent necessary. But, of course, you should have a good school to teach you what you need. When you're in college, you need to start working on building a portfolio and college can help with that. If two people went for the same job and they both had impeccable portfolios, but one also carried a four-year degree, you can bet that person's going to land the job. To be in the industry full-time, not just freelance, means it's important to get that degree.
Q: Would you recommend this career to someone else?
A: Yeah. I can't think of anything better to do. I see things that people don't see. Is it for everybody? I don't think so. You have to have thick skin. You have to work for months on end. Don't set your expectations too high. Be realistic. My first recommendation would be to go to college and get that full-time job. Get a feel for what the industry is all about. It's hard to just have a good portfolio, unless you're an amazing cinematographer. Doing it without college is extremely hard to do.
Q: What is your next career move, if any?
A: Retire and go village. No, but seriously, I'm going to do more projects. I want complete control of my future projects.

America's Endless Obsession with Hollywood

America's Endless Obsession with Hollywood

Have you ever wondered what it is about these Hollywood stars that give them the demi-god status in your lives? You admire and hero-worship them. Love them and even envy their glory. More than your own life you are interested by what is happening in their lives.

Few people debate America's infatuation with Hollywood and the stars; one only needs to watch television to see how movie stars and celebrities dominate the airways and just about everything we see. Even the popular fashion magazines feature movie stars on the cover; super models no longer grace the front and have instead been banished to the back pages. We see movie stars and celebrities everywhere, but what exactly makes these people so fascinated?

Much of this has to do with looks and public relations skills. Many Hollywood actors are prepped and preened before any public appearances. They look flawless. Everything from their hair styles to the makeup they wear, to the designer size 0 duds on their back, it all makes many people feel inferior and in awe of the rich and famous. They have things that many of us could never dream of owning.

Watching our favorite Hollywood stars in films and on television also can give people the mistaken impression that they know what a person is like. They can feel a sort of camaraderie to certain actors. However, in reality move stars have private lives as well as we really don't know what they could be like on a personal level, no matter how many interviews of them we've seen.

Hitting big time in Hollywood is based on good luck and pure timing. As a Hollywood actor to get yourself meaty roles you have to know the right people and be in the right place at the right time. Dazzling good looks will also go far in getting you noticed.

This also extends to musicians. Just take a look at all of multi-millionaire pop singers and ask yourself how many of them can actually sing? Considering all the recent accusations of lip-synching, the answer is not many. It's sad that looks have become more important to so many people than talent.

Many Hollywood stars love the attention they get from their fans and from the press. However, there is a downside to all this publicity. Star stalking is rather common and can be very dangerous. Individuals who have certain mental disabilities often fixate on Hollywood stars and create fantasy lives where they think they know the star personally.

You can gauge the star power of the Hollywood stars from the fact that in the last Presidential election in US many stars were called upon to rally against George Bush. It is a separate matter that Bush won again and people didn't let the stars detract them from their choice.

Hollywood movie stars make millions of dollars from their fan support and people love to see them any chance they get. Tabloid papers spout lies and trash about the rich and famous, and yet people buy them up like hot cakes. America's obsession with Hollywood doesn't show any signs of slowing down.

These models prove that they have more talent than what it takes to possess just a pretty face. Most of the actors have started their careers with modeling and after being a success there they have explored the acting gamut. The models at times take up acting courses or trainings to achieve their dream of making it to stardom. There are various classes and courses available that teach acting. But one should possess a talent that comes from within as acting is something that not everyone is able to do. But it is not mandatory for one to take up a course, even if one is not educated or does not have any professional degree one can get into acting as it only requires a natural talent and no other accolades.

This is an industry that is filled with multitudes of talent. This industry is extremely lucrative that many talented people are into and acing it. By their acting one can never figure if these actors have started just by means of modeling. These faces are no strangers to people.

A Packing Checklist - Leave Nothing Behind

A Packing Checklist - Leave Nothing Behind

Packing for a trip, whether it's a weekend getaway or a three week cruise can be a stressful undertaking. It is easy to forget an essential item; and it always seems like there is never enough room in your luggage for everything you want to take.

If you are traveling by air, you are generally allowed two checked pieces of luggage per person and one carry on bag. The carry on bag should be able to fit comfortably under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. The restriction on liquids is still in effect. All liquids, creams and lotions must be in containers of three ounces or less and contained in a quart size Ziploc bag.

Most experienced travelers understand the importance of carrying important items in their carry on bag, rather than their checked bag, especially if an airline has lost their luggage before. Your passport, tickets and any travel documents should be in your carry on bag, along with any vital medication, spare glasses or contact lens and prescriptions. A basic change of clothing is also a good idea.

Virtually all airline tickets today are electronic, although if you do have a paper ticket you should carry a copy of it in case you lose it. It is a good idea to make photocopies of your passport (the inside page with your information on) as well as any other travel documents. Keep these copies in a separate place. And you should also carry with you a list of important phone numbers to call in case your purse or wallet containing passport, tickets or credit cards are lost or stolen.

Many experienced travelers only take a carry on bag, regardless of the length of their trip. Traveling with just a carry on bag eliminates the often long wait at the baggage carousel, and, of course, the airline cannot lose your luggage.

One method of packing lightly is to put everything you intend to take out on the floor or bed in front of you, then consider each item individually and ask yourself "How often will I use it?" and "Do I really need it?" If you will only use the item rarely, you should consider leaving it at home. When packing your suitcase, place larger and heavier items on the bottom, and smaller items on the top.

Many items can be purchased inexpensively and easily, rather than having to take them with you. Simple toiletries, film for your camera and beach clothing can easily be found just about anywhere. Items that you feel you should take, but may not need, such as waterproof clothing and first aid items can be purchased when you arrive at your destination, if necessary. Most hotels now carry a selection of basic toiletries for guests who may have forgotten something.

Consider packing clothes that can easily be mixed and matched and will complement each other, rather than taking several different outfits. For example, a pair of neutral trousers will match several different sweaters or shirts. Most travelers can get by with just two pairs of shoes, a sturdy but comfortable pair for walking and sightseeing and a more stylish pair for wearing with dress clothes.

A Feminist Critique of The Movie China Town'

Roman Polanski's 1974 China Town is an intriguing movie that keeps the viewer on the edge trying to speculate on what comes next. It is based on detective Jake Gittes a polished and efficient private investigator (Jack Nicholson) who is efficient in his work until he is approached by Evelyn Diane Ladd who assigns him a task of spying on her cheating husband. He later encounters Mrs. Mulwray (Faye Dunaway) the bona fide wife and realizes that he was misused and played by the imitator. His quest to get to the bottom of the story leads to uncovering of incest, conspiracy, corruption and murder. This essay presents a feminist analysis of Chinatown Movie. It discusses the relationship between father and daughter and reviews how women are treated in the movie as well as how their relationship with men is portrayed.

The women in this movie are admirable with marcelled hair styles which reminds us of Meryl Streep while the men are very well groomed men with sharp appearance. The femme fatale in this movie is Evelyn (Diane Ladd) whom the author portrays as a secretive, cunning, manipulative, complex and victim of incest (Tasker 119). Throughout the movie, the author use her to bring the aspect of suspense both to Jake and viewers since her agendas are concealed. However, towards the end, the truth is revealed and the author changes the viewer's perception Evelyn. According to Tasker (122) Evelyn is both complex and motherly as the author brings out the humane side of her.

The conservative feminism is portrayed where Evelyn impersonates herself and approaches Gittes to investigate Mr. Mulwray's extra marital affair. She comes out as a superior being who can go to a man and hire's him to do a job and to be delivered no matter the cost where she says "Money does not matter to me, Mr. Gittes."

Unfortunately Gittes seems not fascinated by this uncovering where he goes ahead to brush off Evelyn by intimidating her. This scene brings out the relationship between men and women in the movie as oppressive where the male gender views women's opinions as insignificant. This aspect of male chauvinism can be noted in Mr. Gittes' words to Evelyn when he quotes the phrase letting sleeping dogs laze as a way of concealing the findings of the investigation from her. The statements that Gittes used were meant to demoralize Evelyn for having her husband investigated. She however comes out as a stronger gender and proceeds with her plans leaving Gittes with no option but to oblige to her request. China Town can be compared to femme fatale movie where the woman gets what she really wants by been affirmative to her desires and making sure they are met (Tasker 121).

Men in this movie, through their conversations as seen between Gittes, Barney and Duffy reflect women as objects to be used and dumped by men when they joke about a "friend to do as the Chinese do." Women should be respected and appreciated since they are an equally important gender in the society (Tasker 120). When Gittes publishes photos of Mrs. Mulwray and Catherine, Mrs. Mulwray comes out as defensive of her husband and pays Gittes a visit at his office and declaring war on him. Mrs. Mulwray threatens him; "I never hired you to investigate on my husband and if its publicity you want, you will get it." Mrs. Mulwray is a strong woman who is not afraid of men. She challenges Gittes by filling a law-suit against him for false accusations.

Father and daughter relationships in this movie is portrayed as disconnected. Mr. Cross' opinion of her daughter seems vey judgmental. In one of the scenes, he is noted telling Gittes, "I am stunned you work for her, unless she has all of a sudden found a different spouse." Similarly, Evelyn is very shocked when she learns that Gittes had an encounter with her father. She disapproves of him saying, "Hear me out; my father is an evil man."

A confrontation between Evelyn and Gittes unfolds the mystery that lies deep under Noah Cross (John Huston), Evelyn's father. Secrets of sexual abuse and incest are reviewed where Evelyn was abused sexually at a tender age of 15 following the demise of her mother which makes her flee from his father's home to Mexico where Hollis takes care of her. She has a deep resentment towards her father who violated her and committed incest and up to now she has not been able to forgive her for abandoning her when she fell pregnant and his failure to acknowledge his responsibility. She has always protected her daughter from the truth and wants to take care of her and protect her. Mr. Cross and Katherine, whom Evelyn describes as "my daughter and sister", have no relationship at all.

According to King (86) "Cross is possessive over life-giving resources and this explains his claim over Evelyn, Katherine and the water supply." At the end, he is seen demanding to have custody over Katherine just like he had over Evelyn. Cross is therefore portrayed as a person who sees women as objects of possession.

Feminism capitalizes on protection of female gender from male exploitation. In this movie, there are scenes portraying incest and assault. While she was still an underage girl, Evelyn was violated by her own father. As a result, she begets a daughter who according to the laws of men is her sister. Katherine is also an underage girl having an affair with a man old enough to be her grandfather. According to legislations, having sexual relationships with an underage is child abuse case.

Gittes uses force and assaults Evelyn slapping and pushing her away in order to get the truth out of her. In feminism perspective it is an act of abuse for a man to assault a woman in order to get what he desires, just because she cannot fight back (King 87). Evelyn is not able to defend herself when Gittes slaps her continuously when demanding the truth. This shows that to men in China Town women are very inferior therefore consulting with them before any action

An act of abuse is portrayed towards Mrs. Curly who a black-eye inflicted by the husband (Curly) for cheating on him with another man. In the same scene, we see Gittes requesting Curly to drive him somewhere and propose he tells his wife "he just stepped out." Gittes shrugs portray a picture of men dominance over women and as well women been liberal and achieving what Despite the femme fatale stereotypes in the movie, China Town is a great movie full of suspense and with a dramatic ending. The women in the movie are portrayed as beautiful but oppressed. This can be seen in Evelyn who suffers incest; Katherine who isinvolved in an affair while still a child; Mrs. Mulwray whose husband is cheating; and Mrs. Curly who is in an abusive marriage. However, some empowerment can be seen within each woman. King, Homay. Lost in Translation: Orientalism, Cinema, and the Enigmatic Signifier.

2009 Calendars Turn Your Own Photos Into A Gift

Turning your photography into a gift for the festive season is not difficult. All it takes is a little forward planning. If you want to make a calendar of your own photos for 2009, now is the time to get started.

We all love taking photos, but in the digital age, most of our pictures never make it past the computer screen. As a result, most of our best photos are never seen by family and friends; the people who would appreciate them the most.

Could you find twelve photos in your files that would make a good gift for someone special?

A calendar of your own photos does not have to be artistic or feature professional-standard photography. What people will appreciate is that you have gone to the effort to produce something original, just for them. Even better, you can tailor-make each calendar to suit the recipient.

For the grandparents, what better gift than a collection of photos of the grandchildren? For the girlfriend or boyfriend, a calendar featuring your special days together throughout the year is a perfect memento. If you have relatives overseas, why not a photo of each member of the family, mixed with some local scenery. What better way to tempt them to visit more often?

Of course, if you are a real photography enthusiast, you don't need to be so sentimental. You may be able to come up with a collection of twelve images that are every bit as good (or better) than all the calendars on the commercial market. Why then, would you give a calendar bought at the local souvenir shop, featuring photos by anonymous photographers that are sometimes years out of date? The calendar you give will be high quality, but it will also be unique. You will feel the great pride that comes with giving a gift of your own personal work, and enjoy the feedback from impressed family and friends.

There are several reasons why a 2009 calendar makes a good gift. Calendars are easy to post; you can send them anywhere in the world relatively cheaply, without fear of breakage.

This is better than trying to post a framed photo, which must be heavily packed to guard against breaking, and cost a fortune to post.

If you give someone an unframed photograph, chances are it will end up at the bottom of a cupboard. You see, if you give someone an unframed photo, they will have to go to the expense of having it framed before it can be hung on the wall. Framing can be prohibitively expensive; your recipient will have to spend more on the frame than you spent on the gift and the postage.

On the other hand, a calendar is a gift that will almost certainly be used. Everyone needs at least one calendar at home or at work, and all that is required is a nail to hang it from. There is no cost involved so it will go on the wall to be admired straight away. The best-loved photos will most likely be kept and framed, so your gift will continue to be appreciated in the long term.

Having considered all this, don't you think it is time you took a good look at the photos on your computer? Think about the time and effort that went into taking them, and remember what you had in mind at the time. Surely you wanted these photos to be shared and enjoyed with friends and family. A 2009 calendar is a perfect unique gift; inexpensive, creative and personal. You have already done the most important part - taking the photos. Now is the time to start planning to turn them into a truly special gift.
