Who reborn dolls are sold to is really interesting as unlike other dolls the appeal of reborn dolls goes far outside normal doll collector spheres.
There is a market for the classic doll collector and these collectors scramble to get the best of the best from the reborn artists.
But there have been some new mode of buyers that have opened up the art of reborning. These new reborn category buyers are making a profound impact on the lives of those that have discovered the positive effect a reborn doll can have.
The bereavement collector, for want of a better name, is one group that is finding comfort from being able to hold a reborn baby that resembles the child they have lost.
Many people find this a little strange and the word creepy has been suggested at times but in our opinion it is not right nor fair to impose on a grieving person the right and wrong way to get comfort.
I have never heard of a grieving mother replacing a lost child with a reborn doll only that the grieving woman is able to think and grieve more peaceable while holding a reborn doll. To remember her child more completely and even feel some connection to the lost child through the reborn. Another area where reborn baby dolls are having a truly positive effect on lives is in the area of Alzheimer's and dementia patients. As these diseases advance it makes communication between patients and carers difficult. Reborn dolls work best with this group, if they are introduced in the early stages of the disease and work their magic on female patients better than male. The reborn dolls take female patients back to a time when they were active, loved, and much needed.
Having a baby to care for seems to calm the patients and helps with lowering drug use and communicating with carers.
Again some people tend to see this as degrading and a bit creepy for the patients but in realty the patients are forgetting the present and more focused on the distant past.
We believe that anything that makes a difference to the happiness of a once productive member of our society is a gift for them. If a reborn baby can make life better for the elderly then we should be getting one for every patient that wants one.
